FAQ
There are many, many different brands of domestic machines and each one has different capabilities. We suggest that you test your machine by sewing on scraps of faux or genuine leather to see what it will handle. Learn more about selecting the right sewing machine in this blog post.
Needle size depends on the type of textiles you are sewing with. When sewing on an industrial machine, try using a size 18 or 19 needle. This should work with average thickness faux and genuine leathers. If you sew on a domestic machine, a jeans or leather needle should work with faux or genuine leathers.
When sewing on my industrial machine, I find the best result us a Tex 70 thread. For domestic sewers, typically a Tex 45 will do the trick. "Tex" refers to the weight of the thread. If 100 meters of thread weighs 45 grams, it is considered a Tex 45 thread. The higher the Tex weight, the heavier the thread. Thread quality can make a huge difference, so be sure to explore the different options until you find the one that is right for your machine and project.
