  • What kind of sewing machine is right for making handbags?
You should find an industrial sewing machine. Make sure that it includes a walking foot and as many accessories that you can afford. Finding a sewing machine with a cylinder arm will be the most beneficial option.
  • What is the skill level required for making handbags?
Each pattern is labeled with a skill level so you can accurately assess which one will work best for you.
  • How much time does it take to make the average bag?
From start to finish, it will usually take 4-6 hours to finish the average bag. This includes cutting, interfacing, and sewing.
  • If I am new to sewing handbags, where should I start?
It is best to start with some of our beginner patterns. We have some fantastic free patterns available.
  • I have a domestic machine; will is sew faux and genuine leathers?
There are many, many different brands of domestic machines and each one has different capabilities. We suggest that you test your machine by sewing on scraps of faux or genuine leather to see what it will handle.
  • what size needle do I need?
Needle size depends on the type of textiles you are sewing with. When sewing on an industrial machine, try using a size 18 or 19 needle. This should work with average thickness faux and genuine leathers. If you sew on a domestic machine, a jeans or leather needle should work with faux or genuine leathers.
  • What type of thread should I use?
When sewing on my industrial machine, I find the best result us a Tex 70 thread. For domestic sewers, typically a Tex 45 will do the trick. "Tex" refers to the weight of the thread. If 100 meters of thread weighs 45 grams, it is considered a Tex 45 thread. The higher the Tex weight, the heavier the thread. Thread quality can make a huge difference, so be sure to explore the different options until you find the one that is right for your machine and project.
  • What is the difference between a cutting chart pattern and a regular pattern?
Cutting chart patterns include a cutting chart with all of the measurements needed to complete the bag. In most cases, all of the pieces are cut using a ruler and rotary cutter and no pattern pieces are provided. There are no written instructions for cutting chart patterns. To learn how to make the bag, watch the corresponding YouTube video and it will take you step-by-step through the entire process of making the bag.
  • Why are regular patterns so much more expensive?
A written pattern that includes pattern pieces is a very time-consuming process that takes months to completed. Because of the time involved to create a full written pattern, the costs are more. I believe that everyone should have an opportunity to create a beautiful, classic handbag. Therefore, I have created cutting chart patterns as more affordable alternatives.
